Student enrichment

The College of Agriculture educates students for productive lives that contribute to agriculture, society and the economic competitiveness of Kansas.

In a time of decreasing state support for public universities and increasing tuition costs, students are more sensitive to the cost of their education. Now more than ever, we must award outstanding students with scholarships so they may actively contribute to the field of agriculture.

It is also increasingly important for undergraduate students to gain hands-on, real-world research experiences with faculty and graduate students. Last year, 150 students gained this valuable experience through international study-abroad opportunities. The college plans to add an additional 75–80 awards for international travel scholarships. Understanding and sharing global, cultural and operational differences is absolutely crucial for our students. We want to ensure that every student who wishes to study abroad receives at least $500 in study-abroad scholarships.

Faculty enhancement

Attracting and retaining agriculture faculty members of the highest caliber is as important as attracting the best and the brightest students. With excellent faculty members mentoring students in the College of Agriculture, students are prepared to face challenges and achieve solutions in their future careers.

Faculty members work on and off campus to advance scientific research and develop new knowledge and products. The knowledge they develop provides the basis to solve problems. Our faculty addresses issues facing Kansas producers, farmers, ranchers, families and communities while serving as a broad economic driver.

Discretionary gifts that support our faculty and their research will make a difference in the college’s ability to competitively compensate faculty members.
