The Berney Family Welcome Center

Patti and Rand Berney

Leadership and generosity: K-State’s welcome center to be named for Rand and Patti Berney
K-State’s new welcome center will be named the Berney Family Welcome Center, in recognition of the $11 million commitment to advance K-State made by Rand and Patti Berney, McKinney, Texas.

Construction on K-State’s Berney Family Welcome Center will begin in January 2015. The unique facility will be located in the east side of K-State’s Memorial Stadium, the first memorial built on campus. The Berney Family Welcome Center will distinguish K-State as one of the first universities in the country to provide a central location for resources that welcome prospective and new students, along with the career and employment services to help students make the transition from college to career. The Berney Family Welcome Center will serve the entire K-State family as the front door to new opportunities. This unique facility will be one of the first in the country to provide a central location for students and families to connect with New Student Services, Admissions, Financial Aid, Housing and Dining Services, and Career and Employment Services.

The center will create a welcoming, convenient and progressive environment for prospective and current students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff and corporate representatives to interact and engage with each other. Everyone will experience a sense of belonging to the K-State community.

Revitalizing a historic campus landmark
The Berney Family Welcome Center will revitalize the historic Memorial Stadium. Completed in 1924, Memorial Stadium honored the sacrifices of students and graduates who were lost in World War I. Former students lived here, others performed original plays, and thousands of students cheered the Aggies and Wildcats from the stands.

This transformational renovation will build upon the legacy of purple pride established by previous generations and advance K-State into an exciting new era.

The path of purple pride
The combination of New Student Services and Career and Employment Services in the Welcome Center creates a literal and figurative bookend experience for students and families. Prospective students and their families will be welcomed here during the recruiting and enrollment process. As their college careers advance, students will engage in career development experiences to help them transition into their first full-time jobs.

Celebrating innovation and sustainability
Interactive technology will be utilized throughout the Welcome Center. Guests may access customized information on campus way-finding, academics, student life and student support services, and transfer that information to handheld devices. The opportunity to interact with the university through cutting-edge technology before experiencing the "high touch" of a friendly staff member blends the best of both worlds.

The green roof is an exciting element in the successful renovation of the structure, providing an attractive and sustainable solution to bring K-State to the forefront of building innovation.
